Downtown and Route 66 Reinvestment
The City of El Reno has launched a Downtown & Route 66 Reinvestment Program that provides matching funds for exterior improvements to commercial properties. Eligible projects include painting, awnings, signage, window and door upgrades, and façade restoration. The program offers up to 60 percent reimbursement, with a maximum of $5,000 per address, and is designed to enhance the appearance of key corridors that welcome both residents and Route 66 travelers.
Earlier Route 66 grant funding helped transform a vacant 1950s service station into The Filling Station visitor center, which has already attracted thousands of visitors from all 50 states and dozens of countries. Additional grant support is advancing the next phase of downtown improvements known as “The Hub,” focused on parking, EV charging, public art, and better connections for buses, RVs, and pedestrians.
Airport Expansion Continues
El Reno’s airport continues to see active investment. Construction of a new terminal is nearing completion, and additional hangar projects are moving forward with a mix of federal, state, and local funding. Officials view the airport as an important asset for both general aviation and potential industrial growth.
New Canadian County Courthouse Underway
A major civic project is also advancing in downtown El Reno. Officials broke ground earlier this year on a new four-story, approximately 115,000-square-foot Canadian County Courthouse. The facility is designed to consolidate services, improve accessibility, and support the county’s growing population. Opening is anticipated in mid-2027.
Infrastructure and Broadband Progress
The city has completed important waterline projects along Jensen Road and U.S. 81 and continues additional utility work to support future development. El Reno’s Fast Connect fiber network has roughly doubled in size over the past year, expanding high-speed internet access for residents and businesses.
Positioning for Growth
City leaders describe the current period as one of practical preparation—pairing quality-of-life and tourism investments with infrastructure that can support industrial and commercial expansion. Stronger sales-tax collections and increased visitation related to Route 66 and local amenities are helping underwrite the ongoing work.
Residents can expect continued construction activity related to the courthouse, airport hangars, and downtown improvements throughout the remainder of 2026 and into 2027.
